National Convention successfully concluded

The National Convention that was reconvened on 18 July 2007 came to an end successfully and completely on 3 September 2007. The National Convention was attended by over 1,000 delegates from national races, political parties, representatives-elect, peasants, workers, intellectuals and intelligentsia, State service and other invited persons.

The State Law and Order Restoration Council took a step to hold the National Convention by issuing the declaration No. 11/92 on 24 April 1992. The National Convention commenced on 9 January 1993 and it was adjourned temporarily in 1996.On 30 August 2003, the government announced the seven-step Road Map. In order to implement the first phase of the seven-step Road Map, the National Convention was reconvened on 17 May 2004. From 1993 to 1996 the National Convention was held six times and from 2004 to date five times. At the National Convention, the delegates have successfully completed drawing basic principles and detailed basic principles for the writing of a constitution. The principles adopted by the National Convention are fundamental for perpetual existence of the Union of Myanmar and peace and prosperity of national races.
